Long distance, cross country pipelines and CSG gathering systems can have an enormous impact on our environment and cultural heritage sites. Mitchell has always been at the forefront of effectively managing the environmental and cultural integrity of the areas in which we work. We are accredited to ISO 14001; our Environmental Management System constantly evolves to ensure current best practice, it also adapts to deal with changing environmental conditions.
We have encountered and properly dealt with over 1,600 ecological and cultural hold points and over 300 waterway crossings on one project alone. The majority of these areas were often restored to better than their original condition, many of the hundreds of cultural heritage sites which Mitchell managed had previously been unidentified and documented.
Mitchell was declared “best practice” contractor on a recent CSG Gathering system installation according to expert third party auditors for the client; we encountered 90-plus waterways and numerous environmental sensitive areas. Cultural heritage and land access conditions were met and exceeded on the CSG project.
Working with and respecting landholders and traditional owners of a property is a high priority for Mitchell. We recognize how crucial good relationships are with all key stakeholders on a construction project, and work closely with everyone to deliver a successful product – for the client and stakeholders. We strive to deliver success through innovation and planning. This is achieved by maintaining a careful understanding of the requirements and standards set out by the client and landholder. This is the heart of our construction teams’ methodology.
Through various projects Australia wide, Mitchell has excelled in cultural heritage management. Through consultation with traditional owners groups, we have been able to strike up working relationships with all land councils throughout the projects we have worked on. On the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project, Mitchell successfully utilised the BulletPlow on some 29-artefact scatter.
Mitchell has integrated health and safety, environmental and quality plans and has developed a comprehensive set of procedures to encompass project management, work methods and quality planning. Regular audits (internal and external) are conducted to ensure compliance with the management plan. Mitchell Water’s Integrated Management System is accredited to: ISO14001 Environment, ISO9001 Quality, and AS/NZS4801 Occupational, Health and Safety.
